The Glasgow School of Art’s Race, Rights, and Sovereignty (RRS) series, in partnership with the School of Fine Art, is commissioning a GSA student to take the lead in researching, developing, and curating an event for the School of Fine Art’s ‘The Friday Event’ lecture series, scheduled for February 2025.
We are looking for proposals that both think broadly about critical engagement with fine art and engage with the themes of the wider RRS programme including this year’s programme strand, ‘What Will Be the Cure?’, which encourages artists and practitioners to collaborate, experiment, and work towards transformative change.
The role will require 2.5 days of work (17.5 hours) between December and February.
The commissioned event will take place on Friday, 28th February 2025, in the Reid Lecture Theatre.
We particularly welcome and encourage applications from students who identify as being from a Minority Ethnic background.
The selected student programmer will:
- Research relevant topics and practitioners whose work engages with the themes outlined.
- Invite artist(s) to participate, and collaboratively develop the event’s concept and format, which could include a talk, workshop, screening, lecture, or another creative format.
- Develop project management skills relating to event organisation, budget and marketing.
- Work closely with and receive ongoing support and guidance from Beulah Ezeugo (Race, Rights, and Sovereignty Coordinator), John Farrell (Exhibitions and Cultural Development Coordinator), and Neil Clements (Lecturer, Fine Art Critical Studies).
How to Apply
Interested students should submit an expression of interest. An expression of interest is a short proposal. It should include:
- A Statement of Interest (max 400 words) outlining your event concept, your curatorial approach, and your motivation for applying.
- What do you see as the link between your proposal and the wider themes of the Race, Rights and Sovereignty programme? (max 200 words)
- Your Biography (max 100 words) summarizing your background, current course of study, and any relevant interests.
Please send your expression of interest to racerightssovereignty@gsa.ac.uk by Friday 15th November.
