Glasgow Art Club – The Glasgow School of Art
‘The Art of the Possible’
- a collaborative exhibition coinciding with the COP26 Climate Change Summit
Call out:
This is an open call to GSA staff and students, who would be interested in submitting work to be exhibited at Glasgow Art Club. This is a collaborative venture involving the Glasgow Art Club and the Glasgow School of Art (GSA).
The exhibition can comprise of work relating to any aspect of climate change, climate emergency, climate justice or sustainability. The exhibition will feature work submitted by both the Club’s artist membership and the art school’s students and staff. There is also an opportunity to submit images to a digital gallery.

When
The exhibition will be open to the public and run from Fri 29th Oct to Sat 27 Nov 2021 (COP26 summit runs Mon 1st to 12th Nov).
Where
- Main Gallery, Glasgow Art Club, 185 Bath Street, Glasgow
Timetable
- 4 October: expression of interest to participate to be submitted by Monday 4 October
- 11th October
- Exhibition space allocated to GAC and GSA based on respective received expressions of interest.
- W/C Mon 25th October – drop off and hanging of physical exhibition.
- Friday 29th October – Exhibition opens both physically and online.
- Saturday 27th November – physical exhibition closes
Art of the Possible – Physical submission
- Any two or three dimensional representation created from mediums which can be both safely and practicality accommodated within the available exhibition space.
- All work accepted for physical submission will also feature online providing that they can be uploaded to GAC’s online gallery using a compatible file format (see below).
Art of the Possible – Online submission
- All selected work will be eligible to also feature online.
- Glasgow School of Art students and staff may optionally elect to submit work that is exhibited only online.
- In the event of their being insufficient physical hanging space to hang all art club member submissions, than any work that cannot be physical accommodated will be eligible to feature online.
- Compatible file formats:
- for still representation: JPEG or PNG file of at least 400Mb;
- for video representation:to be confirmed.

Art of the Possible – Physical & Online Submission
- Each submitted work can be accompanied by a title and description of less than 250 words.
- Work can be marked as either being for sale or nor for sale. Work marked for sale:
- will be able to be purchased online or physically in the gallery;
- will be subject to a 30% commission in favour of Glasgow Art Club[1] if sold;
- may be priced so as to include the cost of shipping to a UK address or subject to a shipping cost enquiry.
Artist’s Statement
- GSA staff and students whose work is accepted will be requested to provide a brief Artist’s Statement.
- GAC artist members who submit work will need to have created an Artist’s Directory entry that includes their Artist’s Statement on the Club’s website if they have not already done so.
Exhibition Flag & Branding
- In addition to the above, artists are invited to submit proposals for both an exhibition flag that could draped from Glasgow Art Club’s flagpole and/or designs that can be used in publications to promote the exhibition (using contact details indicated below).
Glasgow Art Club’s Exhibition Space
Facilities – which the Club can provide include:
- 1 x wall mounted plasma screen for video or digital image presentation located in the Billiard Room.
- 3 x sculpture plinths measuring approximately 1.2m x 0.3m x 0.3m.
- 3 x horizontal glass display cabinets, 1 x vertical
- Storage for physically submitted work immediately prior to and following the exhibition.
- Limited space for exhibited work that may require assembly.
Hanging Arrangements
- The Club’s Main Gallery is equipped with two levels of hanging (dado) rails. The default hanging arrangement is to screw two suitably sized ‘L’ hooks into the back of each exhibited work’s frame or canvas bearer. For this reason metal frames and very narrow frames that are incapable of accommodating an ‘L’ hook should be avoided.
- Scrolls or large roll hangings can be accommodated if stapled or otherwise attached to bearer rails.
